My oil and gold leaf paintings explore the inner world and outer world and are heavy in symbolism. Inspired by philosophical ideas, politics and personal experiences I combine animals and plants with the female figure, weaving them into narratives. In my paintings, everything is a metaphor and has a reason for being in the painting. The pensive expression of the figures helps to draw the viewer in. They also represent an inner self-portrait in response to my living in the world. Some faces are painted from life, photographic references or made up completely.
