Submission Photography

sine qua non

Inspired by Towards a Psychology of Being by Abraham Maslow, this set of photographs spanning seven years is an undertaking rooted in nostalgia based on travel, love, and the search for self-actualization. Each photo is essentially a documentation of a memory I had over the years, taken because of a notoriously poor ability to remember. It’s only when you look back that you can see a whole image of yourself as you’ve progressed. Perhaps you were a bit too harsh on yourself when you thought you couldn’t ever possibly get that job you wanted, to that desired level of acumen. Maybe in this social media-ridden world, you’ve taken comparisons to others too close to heart, and not compared you to your old self. The journey as it has been written through the present has just passed, and it is in anyone to take themselves in kind.
