I’ve always been drawn to the small parts of an outfit, the things you notice without necessarily seeing the whole look. Those details are where I tend to stay. I like fragments more than full pictures, and texture more than pose.
I make all of these drawings in Apple Notes, using the built-in sketch tool. It wasn’t made for illustration, and that’s part of why I enjoy using it. There are no sophisticated brushes or layers to work with, and very little between an idea and the mark itself. I’ve found that limitation quite freeing. It makes me pay more attention to colour, texture, and small gestures, and to see how much can be done with something as simple as a marker or pencil.
The roughness is something I’ve come to appreciate. I don’t try to hide it or work around it. It’s part of how the drawings look and feel.
