I don’t want our eyes to meet just yet

Today, I walked past a person I might never meet again. Even though we live in the same city. This is the kind of modern tragedy I keep thinking about. Not because it's something new, it has been around since the word "modernity" came about, but because it feels more pressing during our times. Everyone is so trapped in this social zeitgeist of pretending, comparing and trending that we distance from each other more every day. It's not the city, it's us who feed the feeling of alienation. And I'm talking to myself first here. I want to live a real life, with real connections, not thinking about what it could have been.
