Soft Armor

This installation series explores the tension between vulnerability and resistance, concealment and visibility. Rooted in Iran’s socio-political context, it transforms hair—a soft, delicate material—into protective, armor-like structures. Hair, once forcibly hidden, now occupies the body’s most visible area, proposing a protection born of vulnerability that remains unfinished.
Condition of emergence:
The project emerged from conditions in Iran where the control and compulsory covering of women’s hair turned the body into a site of tension. The 2022 “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement made this conflict collectively visible, turning the mere act of revealing hair into a symbol and tool of resistance. By altering hair into armor-like objects, the work offers a redefinition of this movement.
All works are made with synthetic hair.
