Spirit of the North

I found the town of Carricitos as I was looking for remnants of the Norteño identity in the rural areas near Monterrey, Mexico. Isolated in the middle of the desert, its inhabitants have made peace with adversity. They find meaning in work under the sun as long as they can have a cold coke or a beer afterward. The city's distance keeps them at the periphery of the many cycles of suffering caused by materialistic desire. Even though it's considered one of the most impoverished areas in the state, their lives are more plentiful than many others. They live close to their families and are in contact with nature every day. And whether they know it or not, the spirit of the North courses through their veins.
