Beneath the choreographed precision of air travel lies a hidden visual language: the safety markings painted on airport aprons. Bold lines, arrows, numbers, and symbols direct the constant ballet of aircraft, vehicles, and ground crews—guiding everything to its terminal, its final destination. But seen up close and removed from their function, these markings slip into abstraction. What reads as one coherent system from above breaks into individual gestures: different yellows, shifting line weights, worn asphalt, improvised repairs, traces of rubber and fuel. The precise language of aviation becomes unexpectedly personal, shaped by climate, maintenance, and human decisions. This project documents these overlooked abstractions across airports worldwide, capturing the moment where strict guidance turns into visual ambiguity.
