That Returns

Across western and southwestern Algeria, El Waada is an annual gathering where tradition, memory, and community meet. Held mainly in autumn, these celebrations bring together horsemen, families, and visitors through equestrian displays, gunpowder rituals, traditional clothing, music, and markets. Through this photographic series, I document both the spectacle and the quieter moments surrounding it: preparations, conversations, and encounters between generations. Beyond the celebration, El Waada reveals how cultural traditions remain alive, connecting communities to their history and shared identity.
