The faces we leave behind

This photographic project explores the hidden archives contained within second-hand digital cameras. While searching for used cameras online, I encountered memory cards still holding photographs made by unknown individuals. Among these images, portraits and close-ups stood out for their repetition: similar expressions, subtle changes in posture, small variations between one frame and the next. The people in these photographs are strangers to me, and the moments they recorded have lost much of their original meaning. I bring these images together into composite faces that seem to contain several moments at once, reconstructing them through a process of digital layering. These photographs are no longer simply records of a past moment. They become something else: fragments of lives we may never know, briefly brought back into view.
