This series was created in China in 2025, where I witnessed communities seemingly paused in time. Beyond globalized cities, many rural regions remain disconnected from mainstream society—a kind of “internal Third World.” Through a slightly voyeuristic approach, I look into these overlooked spaces and the lives sustained within historical fractures.
The two people photographed—a man offering souvenir donkey photos and a woman performing folk rituals—appear to cater to visitors, yet they are not acting as relics of another era. They truly live within this temporal gap, carrying older ways of life into the present.
