When we leave a place, what remains of it within us?
The Living Map is an ongoing series of paintings that explore this concept.
Working with the landscapes, cityscapes and places that I have encountered, I paint not simply what a place looks like but the fragments that stay with us, such as the light, sense of distance, colour or atmosphere that is difficult to put into words.
As a self taught artist, I use primarily acrylic paint, texture and expressive layers to translate these impressions into places that exist somewhere between observation and recollection.
