In my Fragmented Portraits series, I build recognizable figures from shapes that can also stand alone as abstract or symbolic forms. My background in chemistry and biology has shaped my interest in how distinct elements interact to form a more complex whole. I’m also drawn to contrasts, abstraction and figuration, beauty and discomfort, old and new. Using acrylic paint, collaged book pages, crackle paste, and gold leaf, I give each fragment its own texture and character. The portrait emerges as the pieces come together, while the divisions remain visible.
