The spatial qualities of memory (collage series by Jessica Delorme)

My floral arrangements series uses collage, paint and drawing to explore the imaginative and spatial qualities of memory. Using collage images from 1970s floral arrangements, I found myself feeling comforted and nostalgic for a time where I wasn’t even alive. Regardless, the colours and forms still felt deeply familiar and alive while working with them and have made me reflect on the nature of nostalgia and impermanence. Through the process of assembling I have considered how we can build our internal landscapes based on what we respond to both real and imagined. My experience through this exploration, is that this is an implicit process (something sensed) rather than an explicit process (something thought). Working with the collage images has now brought them into the present day in a new way.
