Submission Drawing

The Stare

Jitendra Patel
on sleepless nights, long journeys, or while rocking his son to sleep. A 6.3 inch canvas in the palm of his hand and a stylus that magically brings to life a few pixels are his instrument of choice. The sketches that appear to be portraiture on first glance are actually studies of the sub-conscious mind. Vigorous strokes and vivid colors exude a restlessness that is sharply contrasted by the nirvana-esq harmony of composition, adding to the psychedelic effect of the images. The characters are caught in a constant flux, ceaselessly transforming from abstract emotions to real people and vice versa. Their stillness subverts this continuous change – an ongoing cycle of death and rebirth that is as calming as it is disconcerting. It is a truth that literally stares us into submission and at the same time liberates us.
