"The Wait Begins" is an ongoing project that documents the meditative experience of taking the Staten Island ferry.
The Staten Island Ferry runs through New York Harbor from Manhattan to Staten Island in 30 minutes intervals 24/7. Unlike most ways of transportation where travelers' goals are to get to their destinations as fast as possible, I found that the vehicle itself is a destination for many due to its unique qualities.
The ferry's monotonous humming, its rhythmic sway as it skips across the water, and the open water view of New York churn me into a state of introspection and reflection. I seek to document the poetic fragments of my journey to present the patient and meditative nature of this journey.
