Exhibition Painting

Transcendental

‘Transcendental’ is my sophomore solo show at Glass Rice in San Francisco, on view from February 21 until March 21.

During a recent residency in Mexico City, I began thinking about how people across different places and cultures express identity. I started noticing subtle clues within the city's architectural elements, such as windows, doorways, and iron gates. Creating oil painting compositions that reference these moments, I speak to how physical environments can act as extensions of the people that inhabit them and could be interpreted as signifiers of identity. Each piece is meant to feel like a portal into an otherworldly realm, inviting viewers to look further within. The signature amorphous figure usually featured in my work is further abstracted, expanding outward and becoming spatial, architectural, and immersive.
