(UN)EXPRESSED, the debut solo exhibition of Maltese artist Shanice Farrugia, brings together self-portraits developed over two years. Curated by Melanie Erixon, the works explore emotional restraint, quiet endurance, anticipatory grief and the belief that strength means hiding difficult feelings. Across drawing and painting, cropped, fragmented and partially concealed faces reveal the tension between outward composure and inner vulnerability. Informed by grieving someone close while they are still present, a recurring raven embodies the fear of loss, hovering between hope and fear, presence and absence. Rather than offering resolution, (UN)EXPRESSED questions what becomes of the emotions we learn to suppress, inviting viewers to reflect on emotional well-being and the strength found in acknowledging difficult feelings.
