Vessel Streaming

The exhibition 'Vessel Streaming' is spanning along two historical locations at La Rochelle, France.

One installation at Tour de la Chaîne visualizes trajectories of ships through the Atlantic Ocean, by selectively moving water within nearly 1000 drinking glasses. Glasses are positioned upside-down, locking the water between each glass and the structure below. A concealed mechanism creates waves within the glasses. These waves and currents manifest an ephemeral representation of true data of vessel’s motion at sea.

Simultaneously, machine-made paintings are created based on the same information. Each painting depicts a composition of vessels’ routes along specific areas of the map. Throughout the exhibition, the space evolves via a recurrent selection and neglection of paintings into a digital-analog visual archive.
