Submission Illustration

Watercolor Series

In the Home Residency series, Yulong turned to watercolor as a spontaneous form of expression during the COVID-19 lockdown. Normally working as a digital illustrator, he was accustomed to creating on a screen with layers, control, and precision. But isolation at home brought a shift away from digital tools and toward the immediacy of hand-made art. Watercolor became a way to decompress, a daily ritual that offered emotional release and quiet reflection. This personal experience of staying in one place yet engaging deeply with art inspired the name Home Residency.
Created in a time of global uncertainty, these works focus on small, overlooked moments of everyday life. Yulong paints without pre-sketches, relying instead on instinct and emotion. The process is intuitive and fluid, allowing the pigments and water to move freely.
