What We Want to Remember tells the story of a search to find the connections between colonial history and present day life in Coyoacán, Mexico. The motivation for the work comes from personal experience. As a mestizo Latin American woman from Guatemala, I believe in the necessity of exploring and questioning the past, and the power of photography to create connections to understand our humanity and diverse collective heritage. Questioning a violent history that wiped away the presence of so many souls. Photography becomes the veil that calls attention to the past. Using street photography, collaged images, archival materials, collaborative and self-portrait, to convey a sense of place.
