what would that be like? (the thing in itself?)

In my childhood, I spent many hours outside on black arctic nights with the only source of light emitting from my house, studying the magical lit square on a blanket of snow formed by the light projecting through the living-room window. I consider this moment one of the most memorable experiences of embodied viewership, and this has framed my practice as an artist.

My name is Rina Lyshaug and I am a Norwegian-Sámi intermedia artist from Balsfjord (Báhccavuotna), Norway. I completed my BFA at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2019 and my practice is framed by sensory studies, indigenous scholarship museology and film theory, and I present artworks that defy expectations of optical accuracy, inviting the audience to shift from passive into embodied viewership.
