Winter Monarchs

The Winter Monarchs is a large white oil painting in semi-abstract art nouveau style of two deer, a stag and a doe, in a winter landscape. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. Two deer stand looking imperiously at the viewer. The female is as proud as the male and it is easy to imagine them as monarchs in the way that they are posing as if for a formal portrait. Deer have this ability to look scared, slightly annoyed and defiant all at the same time once they see you and will try to out stare you if they can. The inspiration for the painting is simply me wanting to capture the beauty of red deer, especially when you see them in the snow and ice of winter as you can in Scotland.
