You Never Left

Irem K is a Turkish artist working primarily with pastel and surrealist portraiture, exploring the emotional, instinctive and contradictory sides of human nature.
Animals and hybrid creatures are central to her visual language. She transforms emotions, fears, impulses and vulnerabilities into creatures, giving physical form to feelings that are often difficult to express or recognise.
Her figures exist between human, animal and imagined creature. Playful, vulnerable, instinctive or unsettling, they reflect the many sides of being human. Through these transformations, Irem K explores what lies beneath our identities — our desires, fears and instincts.
Working primarily in pastel, she combines the intimacy of portraiture with the ambiguity of surrealism.
