Subbotin 23 is a Russian underground outsider artist. He left Moscow University after the first year because the academic approach felt alien to him. He works in art brut, rejecting formal training because it produces mimicry rather than true rawness. In addition to visual art, he works in film as an actor.
Despite his underground roots, he has an international status: represented by Pice Gallery (Portugal/Brazil) and selected twice by No. 35 Gallery (London, UK). He approaches exhibitions with extreme selectivity, preferring to place his works directly into private collections.
Today, when the world does not see Russia as a positive country, he continues to build bridges. He wants to show that Russia has a genuine independent scene — and that it is ready to be seen.
