Juri Padel is a Berlin-based actor and director. His work spans narrative spaces, theatre, television and film. Returning to painting after many years, he now is developing his visual language on canvas.
He explores the visual remnants and discarded materials of the urban environment.
It examines torn, painted-over and weathered surfaces — billboards, utility boxes, and facades — often perceived as unsightly elements within the cityscape.
Rather than treating these surfaces as mere signs of decay, the work understands them as a layered palimpsest. From decay, memory emerges on these ephemeral surfaces, revealing traces of time and human intervention that accumulate, overlap, and constantly rewrite one another. Together, these stratified layers form a visual archive that reflects the social, political, and cultural dynamics.
