Naemat Wardak is a contemporary Afghan artist working primarily in oil on canvas. Born in Afghanistan in 1994, his practice explores memory, displacement, conflict, identity, and the psychological traces left by history. Rather than illustrating Afghanistan literally, Wardak fragments and reconstructs its landscapes, architecture, and collective memories through abstraction, symbolism, and spatial tension. His paintings operate as visual archaeology places where absence, rupture, silence, and belonging become tangible. Drawing from personal memory and Afghanistan’s layered histories, he creates contemporary visual narratives that move between the intimate and the historical, asking what remains when places, people, and memories are fractured.
