Roland de Fries is an American–German artist of Belgian descent living and working in New York City. Educated at the Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart (BFA, MFA) and the University of Stuttgart (Philosophy and Aesthetics with Max Bense), he has held an academic chair in Design Principles and Typography and taught in Germany and the U.S., including at the City University of New York. His work has been exhibited internationally, with highlights at Villa Hügel / Museum Folkwang, Essen; Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn; Undercroft Gallery, 1085 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan; Acqualina, Sunny Isles; Chelsea Highline; 1000 Museum, the Zaha Hadid Building in Miami; and CONTEXT Art Miami (2023, 2024, 2025). De Fries is a 2024–2025 Merit Scholarship recipient at the Art Students League of New York.
