The 6th instalment of The San Diego Studies (a series of shorts that collapse time to highlight the unobservable aspects of the city filmmaker Cy Kuckenbaker lives and works – previously featured here and here), is beautifully simple. After suffering a shoulder injuriy, Kuckenbaker started flying kites at the beach in lieu of surfing or swimming. Unlike the other shorts in the series, this video is just Kuckenbaker, his kites, and a glimpse of Tijuana in the background. Check out “20 Minutes of Kite Flying Time Collapsed” below!
I’m excited to share with you this interview and exclusive mix for Booooooom by Garrett “Scooter” Oyama, aka Go Yama. I came across Go Yama’s incredible cover of Flying Lotus’ “Putty Boy Strut” a couple months ago and found myself listening to it over and over and over. This feature came directly out of my obsession with this song.
I’m always hunting around on Soundcloud for up and coming artists, and producers. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else for a feature like this, please share a link to a Soundcloud page in the comments! Listen to the mix and read the full interview below.
Cy Kuckenbaker continues to experiment with collapsing time. You may remember his brilliant video: “5 Hours of Airplanes Landing in 30 Seconds”. Here he reorganizes San Diego’s midday traffic, by colour. There is no CG here, these are all real cars, they have just been re-ordered.
In many ways this reminds me of those “Time-lapse photos by Pelle Cass”.
