Meticulous holographic paintings by Jane Q Cheng who is a student at Emily Carr University here in Vancouver. A single piece takes 2-4 months to complete. Here’s what she says:

“Playing within construct of representational painting, Holographic series works with the idea of illusions. As representations are reflections of the world, representational paintings are never what they claim to be. This series furthers the idea of representational painting as an illusion. The holographic paper, being a directly reflective material becomes a literal manifestation of the illusion. To paint the reflective holographic material is to paint the illusion of representation.

It also exemplifies the idea of the importance on the visual as the eye-catching agent to gain attention. Reflecting upon overconsumption and over saturation of images particularly in the field of Illustration, Holographic series wishes to expose the illusion on the importance of style over content.”
