Another batch of portraits by St. Louis-based artist Cayce Zavaglia (previously featured here). Originally trained as a painter, Zavaglia’s embroideries are all meticulously hand sewn using a personally developed technique that resembles the brushstrokes of classical oil painting.
She also creates large format acrylic paintings based on the reverse side of her embroidered works, drawing attention to that which is traditionally hidden from view. See more images below.
