Artist Spotlight: Minyoung Choi

A selection of recent work by London-based Korean artist Minyoung Choi. Hovering between fact and fiction, surreal and fantastic, Choi oscillates between being a witness and being the subject, drawing inspiration from her personal memories, imagination, and dreams. The characters she depicts exist in relation to one another as a series of meditations on a particular theme or concept. Often bringing together unlikely or unfamiliar sources and elements, she intentionally creates coherent spaces with careful attention paid to composition. “Through painting, I experience and enhance the surreal and magic of the world,” she says. “A sense of wonder, playfulness, and contemplation permeates my works, embodying my awe for the mystery of nature and the instinctive bond between animals and humans.”
