A selection of recent work by illustrator and art director Ibrahim Rayintakath. Based in India, Rayintakath has worked for clients including Apple, Google, Wired, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Much of his editorial work explores critical issues of the day, from climate change and mental health to our evolving relationship with AI. Given the heavy nature of current events, Rayintakath makes a conscious effort to approach his work with a sense of hope and openness toward unpredictability, often purposefully alternating between visual treatments or pursuing random paths to discover new meaning along the way:
“Working directly with text allows me to dig deeper than what is immediately visible. This blurry space between words and visuals makes the process truly exciting, it gives me the chance to construct a fully realized world around the writer’s ideas. My sketchbook is usually filled with written notes instead of rough drawings, that’s where every single project actually begins. I love the sense of discovery in that process, especially the unpredictability once things get moving. Some of my absolute favourite pieces are the ones that strayed completely from the original plan.”
