A Lifeless Still Life of The Lifeless Still Life

I photograph the culture I live in as a visitor. As an adopted child, I learned early to see Western culture from outside, and the camera became my way of looking closer. An image holds an experience still long enough to reflect on it, at a resolution the eye cannot reach.
I look for what people make and keep: architecture, art, objects, and bodies preserved after death. I shoot digitally, with studio flash and natural light, and print on fine art paper from A3 to two metres.
Death runs through the work, frightening and sad, alongside the hope that preservation carries. Beneath it runs a search for home and stability, and for what remains of what I leave behind. I hope viewers leave with relief, and with awe and honour for life.
