PURPLE MOUNTAINS
What remains familiar after distance?
An ongoing photographic project developed through recurring journeys across Türkiye, the work began after Özge Ertürk moved to Berlin and reflects on the experience of returning. Moving through cities, small towns, and the landscapes in between, the series questions how distance unsettles the familiar. Rooted in observation, the project lingers on everyday encounters and seemingly incidental details. Rather than following a fixed narrative, the photographs unfold through atmosphere, leaving space for different readings of place, memory, and familiarity.
From a distance, mountains can appear purple. In the work, this atmospheric shift becomes a way of thinking about how the familiar changes in perception, transforming geography into memory.
