Régine Gardan: Colour as a First Language

Régine Gardan (1964-2018) was a French abstract painter. For her, colours were far more than shades: they carried emotions, energies and stories. She worked in oil on cotton canvas, building texture with a palette knife, and organised her paintings into chromatic periods, from blue to red, from green to yellow, from pink to black. Colour is the very subject of the work, an invitation to feel rather than to recognise. She passed away in 2018: her son, who holds the rights to her work, shares it here so that it can keep meeting new eyes.
