ASTERION is a series of nine photographic self-portraits created through custom processes of digital erosion and recomposition. Rather than using technology to clarify or enhance the image, I use it as a means of subtraction: faces fragment, resolution collapses, and parts of the subject withdraw from view. The work explores identity, intimacy, and the unstable boundary between recognition and disappearance. Each portrait remains only partially legible, asking how much of a person must remain visible for an image to still function as a portrait.
