Cactuses are everywhere

Artist Statement

This work explores the everyday experience of women using public transport in Bangladesh. I focus on the feelings of discomfort, vulnerability, and constant alertness that can arise within crowded public spaces. The cactus-like forms surrounding the woman represent intrusive gazes, unwanted physical proximity, and the invisible boundaries that are often crossed. Through exaggerated colours, distorted forms, and a claustrophobic composition, I transform an ordinary public-transport setting into a psychological landscape of anxiety. The work reflects how fear and discomfort can become normalized parts of women’s everyday movement through society.
