Submission Painting

Chitra Ramanathan | HAPPY ART: Colorful abstract paintings portraying Joy.

The theme of my abstract body of work portrays the mental emotion of *joy*. The initial inspiration for the included current work began during a summer-long stay in Paris, France in 1992 where I first encountered the Abstract Impressionism Movement conveying emotions of the mind rather than what can be seen.

I work primarily in fast drying acrylic and mixed media/collage, creating luminous, frequently large-scale compositions both influenced and inspired by fantasy, dreams, flora of seasons, and films, colorful costumes and festivals of my native India. Using a variety of colorful highlights including permanent textural materials, my paintings have evoked both calm and happy excitement conveyed by viewers and owners of my originals and public and commissioning organizational feedbacks through public art projects since 2004.
