Home on the Grange

The Grange, an unofficial DIY drift car track in the middle of the desert 75 miles north east of Los Angeles, is a self-contained world of burnt rubber and smoke-filled air charged by a restless community from all walks of life testing the limits of a small track, consuming packs of hot dogs, and macgyvering their ways through a handful of unexpected adjustments. There are no track marshals, the majority of the drivers aren’t pro, but there’s so much character and attention to detail with each vehicle. One second I’m riding in an AE86 covered in Japanese anime stickers blasting Slayer and the next I’m in a murdered out 350Z sliding across a corner to Andre Nickatina. There are no trophies or prizes. Folks pack up, drop a pretty penny, and camp out- all for the love. This is a slice of grassroots culture at it’s finest.
