‘Le baptême’

Le baptême, 2026
Acrylic on primed canvas, 30 × 70 cm

Le baptême is a sort of self-portrait exploring rebirth, renewal and transformation. I grew up in a Christian household, so religious imagery and symbolism have always been present in my life, and naturally they often find their way into my work. In this painting, I use the imagery of baptism through the water, the dove and the light coming from above. Water is something that appears quite often in my work, and here it becomes a symbol of cleansing, transition and starting again. Rather than representing baptism in a strictly religious way, I’m interested in taking these symbols I grew up with and giving them a more personal meaning. The figure floating in the water exists almost between two states, letting go of something and emerging as something new.
