I use photography and printmaking to explore nostalgia and everyday life, examining how artifacts and ephemera, whether decades or months old, create a sense of place. My process involves photographing scenes and objects while traveling, whether far from home or around the city, then collecting them into book form. I use the intense saturation of Riso inks to draw out the meaning, and sometimes the sublime, I see represented in these objects. In this series, which includes four three-color, 8 x 10 prints and a 16-page book printed in four colors with a vinyl wrap, I gathered photos from my stops at motels across the United States. The setting of the photos becomes the subject, highlighting the textures and colors of these disparate rooms.
