The Dark Forest

In February 2020 my wife was diagnosed with stage four cancer, two days later my daughter was born. I was thinking very deeply about the role we play in the lives of people around us and how we change each other, for better or for worse. The paintings are a response to that deep stressful moment of change. I obsessed over the moments we had shared. This eventually led me to the memories of rare times I had seen other peoples’ lives change in an instant. Fights, fucking, arguments, and glimpses of people being emotionally entwined.

The paintings are a mediation of moment of change. The physical acts of sex and being a physical conflict are similar in unexpected and often uncomfortable ways. Bodies colliding, heightened emotions, physical tensions, and power struggles.
