the forest remembers

My series “the forest remembers” began after the loss of someone who had been a deeply important figure in my life. Our communication came to an end permanently, leaving me with a sense of an ending that could not be reversed or fully understood. During this period, my therapist encouraged me to practice breathing exercises as a way of staying present with what I was experiencing. I began taking these practices outside, walking almost every day in a forest park near my home. I returned there throughout the changing seasons, through winter and spring, and gradually the forest became more than a place to walk. It became a space where I could remain with what had happened, without needing to explain or resolve it. In my photographs, natural forms are therefore not approached as landscapes to be documented, but as witnesses.
