The Perfect Wife is a narrative project by Ukrainian-Canadian artist Valeriia Polishchuk that examines traditional heterosexual marriage through satire, exposing cultural expectations placed on women through the nostalgic language of mid-century editorials.
As an artistic collaboration, the exhibition features photography, a short film, installations, and performance art. Together, these elements create a dysfunctional house, encouraging viewers to reflect on tradition, identity, and gender expectations shaping women’s lives today.
Through exaggeration and irony, familiar stereotypes of devotion and obedience are pushed to their limits, revealing the structures that sustain them.
20% of proceeds will be donated to Act 2 supporting women who have fled domestic violence.
Opening: May 21, 7pm at Addition Gallery
