Weekend in Yellowknife

I’ve always been fascinated with the Canadian North and its magical, rugged culture. Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories, is a world-renowned hot spot for viewing the aurora borealis. Year-round, visitors flood the city’s downtown, piling onto tour buses that take them to gaze into the night sky at one of nature’s greatest spectacles.

I went to Yellowknife to capture the people and moments that don’t appear in promotional brochures; Inuit teens chilling at the mall after school, rainbow-coloured fishing huts on Great Slave Lake, a Filipina fashion lover wearing pearls and a halter top at -33 degrees.

While the city's main attraction will always be its mystical and fleeting northern lights, what I find beautiful is down to earth and within arm’s reach.
