World’s Largest Recycled Paper Clay Vase | Architectural Sculpture by MKS

Recycled paper clay is a remarkably strong material once fully dry, but working with it in wet clay form poses severe structural limitations. Because of these physical constraints, freestanding paper clay sculptures are typically restricted in size. My work deliberately pushes past these traditional boundaries to prove that the medium can achieve unprecedented scale, durability, and structural strength.

After building the core architectural structure, I focus heavily on surface refinement: sanding the piece down to reveal its contours, then encasing it in a high-gloss epoxy resin glaze to grant it a luminous finish. Standing at a record-breaking 6.9 feet tall, this freestanding vase challenges traditional medium limitations, paving the way for even larger architectural sculptures to come.
