Carlos Lalvay Estrada is a visual artist of Ecuadorian origin who has lived in Genoa since 2001.
My artistic journey stems from exploring the processes by which a migrant body constructs its own image and redefines its presence in space and time.
Drawing on my personal experience, my work focuses on the traces left by migration, the ways identities are reconstructed across different territories, and the stories that often remain on the margins of major official archives.
My practice combines drawing, etching, engraving, painting, photographic chemistry, and micro-carpentry through an experimental and self-reliant methodology.
This combination gives rise to experimental processes rooted in repetition, layering, minimalism, and a dialogue with error—viewed as an integral part of the creative process.
