Mady Berry is a London based multidisciplinary artist working primarily in watercolour. She returned to the medium after years, and hasn’t stopped painting since. She is drawn into the fine balance of control and chaos that is inherent to watercolour. The unruly nature of the medium itself has ties to the tension between reality and escapism that is at the forefront of her practice. Her work often plays with the power of the imagination to create and manipulate internal worlds. Drawing on her experience working as a costume and fashion designer she incorporates costumed figures in her compositions, she is interested in how a garment can create a mysticism surrounding the wearer and how something familiar can be presented in an unfamiliar way. She aims to create an imaginative world which transforms reality.
