Diogo Baptista (db3) (b. 2002, Lisbon) develops his practice between small-scale sculpture, photography and digital editing.
He models sculptures rarely larger than ten centimetres, in used chewing gum, air-drying clay and reclaimed materials — broken glass, used aluminium cans and foil, wood, paper clips, bones — minimizing the use of new matter. The photographic image that results from each piece is meant to be viewed digitally, and printed physically only if desired: this miniscule material representation illustrates the absoluteness of the concept at hand. Its gravity lies not in the moment, but in the fact that this reality exists and is enforcing itself upon our shared reality.
