Born in Osaka in 1992, Shunsaku Hayashi is a Japanese visual artist and filmmaker currently based in Berlin as an artist-in-residence at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, supported by the Pola Art Foundation. He studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Rooted in moving image and animation, his practice expands across painting, installation, and cinematic space. His current exhibition, *hovers*, at Künstlerhaus Bethanien brings together large-scale paintings and a stop-motion video work developed from a repeated gesture found in a football video game.
His works have been shown internationally, including at the Berlinale, Annecy, Oberhausen, and Ars Electronica. His feature film, *invisions*, premiered at Animafest Zagreb in 2025.
